About Tree Ring:

My name is Patrick, and I graduated in 2009 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a major in Electronic Media Arts and Communications (EMAC), and a minor in Game Studies.

Since middle school, I have had a passion for finding ways of merging traditional artistic sytles with digital mediums. Tree Ring is a collection of these results, ranging from digital artwork and storyboarding, to animation and character design in games. I love telling stories with my artwork, so a lot of the projects found here are narratively based.

I'm eager to find a position working with artistic elements, either in character modeling, or in 3D animation to gain experience in a professional development setting. I love playing games, and I love building them. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for games that try to tell stories. I don't know if games are the best medium for storytelling, but I do think that they have a lot of potential for letting a player experience a story that the player creates, and I think that the best way to weave that kind of story is through careful attention to artistic theme and visual style. A lot of the work I have done with games (also found on this site), deals with telling a story through gameplay, while keeping the game fun and engaging.

I still have a keen interest in other areas of Game Development, and continue to take courses in and stay up to date with game design theories, life drawing, and courses in C++ programming. I feel that continuing to improve myself in all of these areas helps me better communicate with artists, programmers, and designers.
